Despite a race 1 brake failure Triggerfish has taken his maiden championship by holding out [V8AA] Freeky by a mere eight points at the conclusion of the final round in the debut FVRV8 series hosted by Mad Dog Racing. Finishing in a comfortable third place for the championship was [V8AA] Nibiru, and reaping the benefits of a steady climb up the ladder, throughout the season, was MDR team driver Maxcat, in the 'Aussie Web Radio' VE Commodore.

The final round, on the streets of Detroit, was expected to be marred by carnage, but drivers ran mostly trouble free and incident free, despite a handful of minor incidents at the dreaded 'ramp' section of track.

Series top 5 hopeful MDR-Quasi was well placed in race 1 to make up some ground on his team mate, Maxcat, in the overall points when, with three laps remaining in race 1, mounted his 'Refund Home Loans/Club 17' BF Falcon on the end of the wall entering the 'ramp' leading into the final sector. Quasi carried on, and completed the first race, albeit a lap down. Also with only a handful of laps remaining race leader Triggerfish found himself without brakes clouting sections of the concrete wall that runs the length of the circuit. He also completed the race, and both cars were set upon by repair crews to have them race ready in time for the second event of this all important final round.

Following the same early pit strategy from race 1 MDR-Quasi saw his top 5 series hopes turn from disaster to tragedy when on lap 3 he suffered engine failure, ending his day, while Triggerfish saw no repeat of his brake failure problems bringing his Falcon home towards the pointy end of the field, and claiming the points necessary to hang onto the number one championship position.

In a graphic illustration of the importance of consistency Hellraiser pulled off two second place finishes to award him the round win, and giving notice of what could have been had he not been a late comer to the series. Also showing how consistency and determination pays off was AUS-Butakup, who saw out the series to garner an eighth place overall.

With plans already in motion for series 2 for the FVRV8s, the next event on the MDR racing calendar is the much anticipated first series for Historic GT & Touring Cars, which kicks off at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway on March 21st.
