I have registered to run in the FVRV8 2010 series at Adrenalin Factor, starting Sunday, at Yas Marina. I'm pretty unhappy with the forced driving view these guys impose on everyone, as it is cockpit view, inside the car, which I don't use as I find the field of vision too impaired, and in these cars it is a little worse due to the more realistic roll cage. However, I have played with seating position quite a bit, and have been perservering with practice laps, even though I'm 13 seconds off the pace, and better judgement says to pull the pin. Most likely I'll spend the whole series running at the back, and trying to avoid a DNF (and getting in the way). I have, though, posted this team launch press release in the 'Team Details' forum at Adrenalin Factor. Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia Monday, March 1, 2010
In the midst of team launches prior to the 2010 V8 championship season opener at the beautiful Yas Marina curcuit another team has launched it's season on the Queensland gold coast today.
The launch kicked off around 12 noon today and took place at the Upper Coomera workshop and home for 'Mad Dog Racing'. The team is heavily sponsored by Aussie Web Radio and Online Racing Australia, with both also having their offices (and webcast studios) in the same complex.
Team owner Steve Hoppitt is also Operations Manager, and CEO, of Aussie Web Radio and believes though a team of hopefuls, they can at least put in some promising performances across the championship, in an effort to improve upon their mid-field performances of 2008 and 2009.
With executives of Ford Australia on hand to celebrate the occasion, as well as company employees from Aussie Web Radio, Gator Bourbon, St. George Illawarra Dragons, and Biante , the team's pit crew and driver took pride of place amongst the festivities and merchandise on display, which included team shirts, hats and paraphenalia.
MC for the afternoon was media personality 'Uncle' Doug Mulray, with other celebrities such as former rugby league and Rugby Union international Wendell Sailor, and rocker Jimmy Barnes, who belted out an acoustic rendition of 'No Second Prize'.
The guest of honour was a brand spanking new FG XR8 Falcon, which was absolutely stunning in it's livery advertising the major sponsor, that is powered by a Dick Johnson Racing V8 engine. The incredibly eye catching paintwork was created and applied by Quasimodo Skinworks.
When asked for a statement on the teams chances lead driver Quasi simply said "We are absolutely stoked at getting things on deck for 2010, and on schedule in plenty of time for round 1 of the championship, but we have no illusions about how tough it will be against established and much more experienced teams and drivers. If we can be consistent and stay around midfield for the first half of the series we're sure we can improve from there, and our number 81 FG Falcon is as ready as it will ever be".
Immediately following the festivities at team HQ guests were treated to a first class coach ride to Queensland Raceway, where they witnessed an identically prepared backup car being put through it's paces, before corporate joy rides commenced.
However, team boss Steve Hoppitt made it clear to this reporter that once the car is loaded onto the plane to Yas Marina everybody at Mad Dog Racing will have their serious faces on, as the team concentrates on the business side of V8 motorsport.
